Abbey 345 Pre-School is located within the grounds of St Guthlac’s School. We are situated on a secure site with a wonderful sensory garden where children can grow fruit and vegetables, learn about life cycles by observing life in our pond and various animal habitats - and experience the changing seasons. The garden also includes a trim-track, willow tunnel and magical story telling area – complete with an owl carved throne.
We have our own two classroomed portacabin with access from both rooms onto a soft-pour play area covered by a canopy enabling all year round outside play. All areas (inside and out) are organised into different learning zones that ensure children have a wide range of play choices.
Our classrooms are set out very differently.

Classroom 1 – with lino flooring, is used for ‘messy’ play allowing the children to experiment with different media - paint, clay, ‘gloop’, dough, pasta, foam, sand and water. It is roomy enough to also offer table-top play and space for the children to eat a range of healthy snacks.

Classroom 2 - with carpet flooring, has a cosy cushioned area for group times such as registration, stories and music, a literacy area with a wide choice of books, puppets and story sacks as well as computer access and a variety of role play and small world zones.
Our outside area features a range of equipment, including our wooden pirate ship and castle playhouse, climbing frames, sandpits and our ‘builders yard’. We also have quiet places such as our willow teepees where the children can take books and puzzles (or just sit and chat). The children access ride-ons, scooters, trikes, balls, hoops etc. enabling them to learn balance, control and develop their motor skills.
